talkin' to myself.......

Life is so complicated. Even more complicated is human nature. I realize this when I go blog-scouting.

What interests me are political blogs with opinions about current issues, the poetic blogs, the book review blogs, the humorous blogs - but the ones that are really enjoyable to read are the everyday blogs - the blogs where the author describes their everyday life in detail - day after day - the more insignificant the story, the more interesting it is to read. It feels like I'm peeping into some one's window with a telescope and lip-reading skills!

I think this relates to a technique scriptwriters use very effectively. It is a common fact that a person is at their most natural self when left alone in a room. What they do then - how they interact with different objects in the room - can be used to show the person's real character. When they are aware of the fact that no one is watching them, they will do all sorts of things that they wouldn't dare to do in front of others.

Writing a blog sort of runs on the same logic. Though you are aware that your words are public and will be read by others, but at some level you are sitting alone with this object in front of you and hopefully with no one peering over your shoulders :) You do enjoy an anonymity which makes you less conscious about your thoughts and words. And the result of all this is a journal-like blog with it's charming personalizations which makes an extremely interesting read.

So why does this simple logic of human nature elude me when I think about writing my own blog?
I tend to think that I should have something important enough to write before I begin - that why would anyone want to read about my boring life where nothing worth telling is going on? Ah, stupid me. Yes, yes - i am kicking myself..

I am greatly interested by those views you express about blogging. I agree with you on a lot of points and am trying to understand a lot about the matter because working on a Master's Paper that includes a questionning about writing in the 21st century which blogging is a big part of.

Hey Margot,
I agree with you about blogging being very crucial in 21st century writing. It is therapeutic for many people - gives an outlet to many isolated groups, most importantly women (especially in places like my home country India).
Good luck for your Paper :)
