He She Cha Cha Cha

Posting in bed! What a nice feeling!

So I danced the Meringue and the Cha-cha-cha last night. It sure is fun but also quite obnoxious. Some lines you often hear are: "the man always leads", "the woman will go wherever the man takes her", "let the man tell you where to go". Such simple instructions in a beginning dance class are really so profound. They truly represent the hierarchy of our world! The man and woman dancing are not supposed to be equal. Thus, a man and a man or a woman and a woman would not be able to dance the meringue, unless they too decided who is the lesser one between them.

Dance is such a liberating act - what a pity that these wonderful Latin dances are based on inequality.
