I never thought I would do a post on Heath Ledger. But here it is. I was shocked to hear the news of his sudden death - but I didn't delve too much into it. I assumed he was suicidal and on drugs. I thought if people can't deal with their lives, I prefer not to waste too much time on them.
Its been long since I went back to my once favorite "10 things I hate about you" (I had seen it numerous times) and "brokeback mountain", which I thought was a brave and much-needed film.
I happened to be watching a long episode of some celebrity show last night. Shekhar Kapur was talking about his last conversation with Heath on the very day of his death. He said Heath was not suicidal, and there were no illegal drugs found in his possession. He probably took an overdose of his prescribed medicines. Or maybe he didn't. Who knows. But the reality is that this beautiful and talented young man lost his life.
I wonder if he would have made different choices in life, if he knew he was so close to death. We are all so close to death. Do we make our choices in light of that? Or do we need a reminder to jolt us out of our illusions of immortality?
Will the loss of this one famous life be the knock on our doors?
