I did it! Another big accomplishment! I made the shrimp curry :) It might not be very great but I love it :) Yumm..
Okay, so lets get down to business. I discovered Margaret Cho last week at the Bargain bookstore in Greenwich Village. I read her for most part of my subway journeys all over the city. And I think she's very cool. Apart from that, with the help of her book I figured out something very important about American politics and society, which led me to see parallels between here and back home.
Homosexuality is to the majority of Americans what Islam is to the Hindu majority in India - an imaginary threat created by vote hungry monsters. I see it so clearly now. The fear against homosexuality did not come "naturally" to homophobes - they were manipulated. The same fear that Bush created with the "war of terror", in the words of our dear friend Borat. The kind of fear that makes you blind. Here's just one example of how deep-rooted this political strategy has become in the American society.
Please leave comments. I'm in the mood to welcome even contradictory views this time! It's worth the argument. Give it a shot.

In other news, my Visual Anthropology class seems tailor-made for me. Lots of documentary screenings, and controversial readings - yumm... Guess what, we'll even watch Borat in class. He's in the curriculum!

no time to watch the video just now... but do shrimps taste different from prawns?
well, if you cook them right they're the same :)
except they're much bigger and have a shell-like thing on their ends.
I'm at work, so can't watch the video, but I think the scene is terrible in America for homosexuals. I live in Alabama and my best friend in college is gay boy from ozark, alabama. It's a tiny place in south alabama and he is full of stories. After several hours of listening to him, I just couldn't help but feel sorry...and I so get what he is talking about because it's first hard experiences.
Anyway, I agree with the bigger concept that this society is manipulated, divided, and corrupted for the benefit of political or other powerful people in the society.
Yay on shrimp curry!
yeah, and its the same back in India, or maybe everywhere in the world!
This depresses me so much :(
Man...that was horrible! I just watched the video. That lady is unbelievable...and she has the nerve to start off the thing by saying that she isn't against homosexuality.
This is what happens when one lacks common sense...this lady ain't even worth being corrected...she is that hopeless.
I'm beginning to think these hopeless people, who also happen to be very powerful, should be executed. They make me so mad!
Anyway, thanks for watching the video :)
