For those who are wondering about the status of my Goals, here it is..
No progress on the Spain part. I'm actually thinking about reconsidering the country. I wouldn't mind going to Argentina or any other Latin American country if it turns out to be cheaper than Spain. The idea is to be able to practice my Spanish and live in a Hispanic society. I will be making up my mind in the next three months. In the meantime my Spanish classes begin on Monday after a three-week break. I hope I keep up with my profesora J. She is so funny. I enjoy just sitting in her class even if sometimes I feel completely lost.
My Faiz Goal is not going anywhere yet. I have the book kept on my bedside hoping the words from the pages will fly out in the darkness and enter my subconsious mind somehow.

yo espanol estudante
Speaking Spanish is so much fun - though I can only manage the very basics of introductions - let me practice it here - but I don't know how to get the accents for the Spanish script - never mind - as if anyone here will know what I'm saying! :)
HOT GUY - Hola, senorita!
ME - Hola! Buenos diaz!
HOT GUY - Buenos diaz! Que tal?
ME - Como estas?
HOT GUY - Muy bien, gracias. Y usted?
ME - Mas o menos.
ME - Como se llama usted?
HOT GUY - Me llamo Hot Guy. Y tu?
ME - Me llamo BIG BLUE SHOE. Encantada.
HOT GUY - Mucho gusto. De donde eres?
ME - Soy de Neva York. Y tu?
HOT GUY - Soy de Hotguyland.
ME - Hasta luego.
HOT GUY - Hasta pronto, senorita!
THE END
In the next episode, Hot Guy and Big Blue Shoe will exchange telephone numbers, addresses and will talk about the colors of the objects around them! How exciting!
Adios amigos!

Spanish update
So it's not as easy as I had imagined!
I had three Spanish classes last week. The class is fun - the instructor is hilarious - and sort of weird. But most of the class has done high school Spanish - so they know a lot already. And I will have to miss one class every week - so I'm afraid I will really lag behind!
Week two begins tomorrow. I should go to campus early and study Spanish before class. I also need to start some form of exercise - dancing was supposed to be the solution to this - but one hour per week is too less.
And my partner....wuuaahhh!!! :(
But just the thought of going to Spain and speaking Spanish and dancing the Salsa in the Summer with a hot Spaniard....aahhh... okay, okay...that's enough...I got my answer ;)

GOAL number 2
Here's another goal:
I will memorize all of Faiz Ahamad Faiz's poetry by summer 2008!
I always envy people who can quote great poets from memory. I've tried many many times to memorize a few lines from poems or even single lines from prose but I always fail. I tried to learn one from Anita Desai's book day before yesterday night. Let me give it a shot - "Stains of blood from the arrow of love.." Let me check..
:(
It's "Stains of blood that the arrow of love had left"! Not good enough.
Okay...so lets focus on my new goal..maybe i can also include learning some Urdu along with memorizing Faiz. I have a friend here - actually two friends, who could teach me how to write it!
~~Great~~
Update on the Spanish post-its: Some of them refuse to stick on the objects but most of them are doing their job well. My computadora here says hi :)

Viva el EspaƱol

So I started reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to learning Spanish on your Own"! Such an ego-boost!
Went easily through the first chapter - it was more like a mother trying desperately to inspire her child to do something she knew the child didn't want to do. Worked quite well for me! Though i'll know for sure only if I keep going..
I did get an interesting idea while reading the book. Since I already have an english to spanish dictionary, I have decided to post-it objects around me with their spanish names and pronounciations. Not a complete idiot, huh?!? :)
So the deal is that the more I work on my Spanish now, the easier my life will be in the next two months. I will be studying Spanish in class starting December but I will also have many more "important" things to do. I really really hope I can overcome my limited linguistic skills!
This calls for a reminder of my goal - Granada, here I come...
P.S. - I didn't spend money on "the complete idiot's guide..." - it's an online book. Told you - not a complete idiot.. ;)

Yet another new beginning...
Huh! Enough about new beginnings...lets not get our hopes high!
If only I had a dollar for every time I wrote a first post...
I'm on a new continent far away from my earlier posts.
Life is good and many dreams have come true.
I am finally living on my own - though still being funded by my parents (I do have a job but the money is meagre).
I cook my own food and wash my own clothes! And I love every second of it...well, mostly :-/
I take the bus to the university, to the mall, to Walmart, to the movies, to the lake and even to the 24/7 store round the corner. Yes! That's right! I am the proud owner of the freedom bus pass!
Okay, so this time I am going to set goals for myself and document them on my blog.
My first goal for June 2008 is to spend a month in Spain (Granada and around) and speak fluent Spanish by the end of that month!
I invite you to join me on this journey. I promise it will be worth your time...
